Classroom Procedures
What do students need to bring to class?
Students should always bring their notebook/binder, paper, pencil, pen, eraser, sharpener, ruler and Student Record card. For students taking Gr. 9-12 mathematics and science, a scientific calculator is required.
Will the students have a break?
Students will have a 10-15 minutes break midway through their class. They will have time to go to the washroom, have a snack/ water break or have time to ask their teacher about their work.
Student Progress
How will parents and students know of the student’s progress?
Every student has a Student Record card. Quiz and test marks, homework grades, and any further remarks from the teacher will be recorded at each lesson. Parents are asked to sign the record card weekly. Please ensure that the student brings his/her record card to class. Should you have any concerns or questions and would like to speak to the teacher, please book an appointment with our staff.
How can we maximize the student’s progress?
Students will see the most improvement if they participate in class, have regular attendance, and complete their classwork/homework in a timely manner.
Student’s Absence
What if the student is absent?
Please notify STS front desk staff of the student’s absence/absences by telephone or in person 24 hours in advance. STS front desk can help the student schedule a makeup class if space permits. The student is encouraged to pick up the lesson materials in advance of the makeup class and bring them to their makeup lesson. Please note that makeup classes may possibly be offered at a different time and campus. The student may choose to forego the make-up lesson opportunity once per payment cycle. You may also report absences by leaving a voicemail with the following information: student’s first and last name, student number, campus, grade and subject, date and time of the absent class, and your telephone number.
Drop Off and Pick Up
Where should I drop off and pick up my child from class?
For safety reasons, we ask to please drop off and pick up your child from the front desk area of the campus and remain outside of the classroom areas while waiting for your child. If someone other than parents, guardians, or grandparents will be picking up, please notify the front desk in advance.
Payment
What forms of payment are accepted?
We accept cash, personal cheques, Mastercard, Visa, and debit.
How can we keep track of tuition paid?
A payment receipt is issued at the time of payment. Please keep your receipts for your personal records. STS keeps a book and computer record of tuitions paid and attendances.
School Holidays
When are the school holidays?
STS is closed on Chinese New Year’s Eve, Chinese New Year’s Day, and on statutory holidays throughout the year (New Year’s Day, Family Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, Civic Holiday, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day). We are also closed for approximately one week during the Christmas holidays. The above list of holidays can be found in the Student Record card. What happens in the event of inclement weather?
In the event of inclement weather (e.g. heavy snowstorm), classes may be cancelled for the transportation safety of our students and staff. Please check our website for updates.
